VIETNAM   ADOPTION

LICENSED AND ACCREDITED:  We are a full service, licensed, not-for-profit child adoption and humanitarian agency, accredited by the COA and well organized in Vietnam where we have worked for many years.  We have an experienced and outstanding bi-lingual team in Vietnam who take care of every family and every detail of the adoption.  Our work is based on relationships that have been established for many years.  We are accredited by the Council on Accreditation, which is the highest level possible for a placement agency and pursuant to the Hague.

Children's Hope International began working in Vietnam in 1998. We have been doing humanitarian aid there ever since and did not stop our humanitarian aid support during the 3 year moratorium. From 2003 to 2006, adoptions in Vietnam closed to US families and the entire adoption system in Vietnam was restructured. In June 2005, the US and Vietnam signed the memorandum of agreement to allow adoptions to resume with US families. Vietnam now requires that all agencies be licensed. CHI was licensed on January 25, 2006 and we completed 60 adoptions the first year it opened.

Children's Hope International has 16 regional branch offices and
 representatives
working for Vietnam adoption
in 50 states.

PROGRAM BRIEF FOR ADOPTION IN VIETNAM

  1. Both boys and girls are available for adoption, but boys are more numerous. There are not many toddler girls available to adopt.

  2. Children are placed for adoption usually for reasons of poverty. All children are adopted from orphanages; some children are relinquished by one parent to the orphanage while other children are abandoned. Prior to Referral, each child has a medical exam and blood test including HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis.

  3. After you receive your Referral, you will make a journey of love to Vietnam to get your child, complete certain paperwork and finalize the adoption at the U.S. Embassy there. CHI estimates your trip to take place approximately 4-5 months after Referral.

  4. Only one trip will be required. The trip will be 2-3 weeks in duration, during which, you will complete the adoption process and bring your child home.

  5. CHI will assist in making travel arrangements for you including hotel, plane, etc. You will be met and assisted the entire time by one of our CHI Representatives in Vietnam who is quite caring and knowledgeable about the whole adoption process.

  6. Currently we are working with a total of 6 orphanages in Vietnam.

  7. Medical information on the birth mother/family is not obtainable. Usually there will be just a name and non identifying information on the birth mother but there is no guarantee that the information provided by her is factual.

VIETNAM ADOPTION REQUIREMENT

  1. The only age requirement that Vietnam has is that parents must be 20 years older than the child. CHI requires that both parents are at least 23 years old. Families under 50 years old can apply to adopt a child under 1 year old. Families 50-55 years old must be open to a child that is 1-3 years old; 55-60 year old parents must be open to a child 3-5 years old and those over 60 must be open to a child over 5 years old.

  2. Single women are allowed to adopt.

  3. Persons previously divorced are permitted to adopt. No more than 2 divorces per parent.

  4. Couples who already have 5 children in the home are allowed to adopt but they must prove that they have enough yearly income to support a large family.

VIETNAM ADOPTION PROCEDURE

  1. Fill out the application which can be downloaded in our forms section.

  2. After your Application is approved, we will send you a Vietnam Adoption Guide which gives step by step procedures and you will be assigned your personal CHI Adoption Counselor to guide you through every step in preparing your paperwork. Also you will have 24 hour a day access to CHI Family Net® which gives you detailed instruction about preparation before during and after the adoption.

  3. When your paperwork (Dossier) is finished,

    • We will send it to our staff in Vietnam who will work with adoption authorities.

    • They will identify a child for you. That is called a referral and a picture and medical and all available information will be sent.

    • Upon your acceptance of the referral, you will fly to Vietnam where our representative will submit your papers to the Department of Justice in Vietnam.

    • You will travel to Vietnam with all arrangements made by CHI.

    • We are not sure at this time how much time will be needed in Vietnam for the finalization of the adoption.  We anticipate at least 2-3 weeks.

    • You will fly home! CHI will be available to you for any service needed after the adoption is complete.

 VIETNAM ADOPTION COST

  1. The estimated total cost of the adoption but NOT including travel is: $17,802.00 - $18,237.00

  2. The estimated cost for travel (hotel and airfare) (two parents traveling): $5010.00
